Mykhailo Mudryk mentions the one Arsenal player he’s most eager to play with if transfer happens
Mykhailo Mudryk, an Arsenal target, has chosen a Gunners player he would be ‘excited’ to play alongside if he were to join the club in January.
The Shakhtar star has been linked to Arsenal in recent weeks, with Mikel Arteta’s side looking to add a wide man to their roster.
Fabrizio Romano stated on his YouTube channel that Arsenal were in talks with Shakhtar over the 21-year-old, who has impressed in both Champions League matches against Real Madrid this season, but opted against the move due to the £40-45m cost demanded by the Ukrainian champions.
Furthermore, Carlo Nicolini, Shakhtar’s deputy sporting director, reportedly told the Italian site Calciomercato that the club would demand at least €100 million for the player.
Despite the fact that the team is supposedly requesting more, Romano claims the Gunners are still interested.
And the player’s statements to Ukrainian media may have increased their chances of signing Mudryk.
Mudryk expressed his views on potentially joining Arsenal or Real Madrid to Ukrainian TV anchor Vlada Sedan, the wife of Gunners striker Oleksandr Zinchenko (quotes via CBS Sports’ Ben Jacobs):
“From a purely theoretical fantasy perspective, if there was the option of being a bench player for Real Madrid or a starter for Arsenal, I’d probably choose Arsenal.”
He was also questioned whether the possibility of playing alongside Zinchenko at Arsenal would ‘excite’ him, replying: “Yeah, it does.”
Zinchenko is Arsenal’s second Ukrainian player, following 2002 Premier League winner Oleg Luzhny.
Mudryk would become the Gunners’ third Ukrainian signing if he joins in January, a possibility that is becoming more plausible.
With eight goals in 16 appearances across all competitions this season, the 21-year-old appears to be a more promising alternative for the Gunners, who will be five points clear at the top of the Premier League at the holidays.
