‘My understanding is’: Charles Watts discloses ‘dreadful’ Arsenal transfer news
On his YouTube channel, Charles Watts has provided an update on the imminent sale of Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi.
After the latest international programme, the Goal.com correspondent expects the Arsenal prospect to complete his permanent move to Marseille.
Guendouzi was released by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta two years ago, and he has since had two loan spells away from the club.
The 23-year-old played for Hertha Berlin in 2020-21, and he starred on loan at Marseille last season.
Guendouzi scored four goals and provided eight assists for Jorge Sampaoli’s team, which finished second in Ligue 1.
While on loan from Arsenal, the Gunners midfielder has earned four caps for France’s senior team.
Arsenal will reportedly receive a meagre £10 million fee for Guendouzi, in accordance with the option to buy they agreed on with Marseille last summer.
Watts admitted that “it’s not a very good price” when discussing the Frenchman’s impending departure.
He also mentioned Arsenal’s “notoriously dreadful” record when it comes to the money they make from player sales.
“My understanding is, his move to Marseille will be confirmed pretty imminently,” said Watts.
“He is away at the moment with France.
“I think once that stay comes to an end then it won’t be too long until we hear confirmation that Guendouzi has joined Marseille on a permanent basis.”
“The loan deal that was agreed last summer with Marseille, they included an option to make that deal permanent this summer.”
Watts noted certain “really silly clauses” that may have prevented the sale from going through.
One of them was a relegation break clause for Marseille’s security if they were relegated.
“Obviously that didn’t happen, they had a very good season,” continued Watts. “So those clauses haven’t been hit.
“That means that he will now complete his permanent move to Marseille. That should happen fairly soon, I’m told.
“It’s going to be about £9million, Arsenal are going to receive for Guendouzi. They received a loan fee last season as well.
“Basically, the whole thing with Marseille is going to pocket them about £10million.
“Is that enough money? You have to say no.
“Just looking at how young he is, how he’s done at Marseille, the fact he’s a France international, it’s not a very good price.
“As is the way with Arsenal, who are notoriously dreadful when it comes to selling players.”
