Over the weekend, Robin van Persie, an Arsenal legend who had left the team to join Manchester United and won a league championship there, shared his thoughts on the title race with Manchester City.
Despite his departure, Van Persie remains a close follower of Arsenal, having been recognized as one of the team’s top players in the last decade and a half.
As a result, Arsenal supporters pay attention to his opinions. Sky Sports reported on Van Persie’s prediction regarding which team, between Arsenal and Manchester City, will come out on top in the title race, and Arsenal fans are likely to be happy about it.
“If you look at this period in time this is where every single point counts. They’ve had a couple of difficult games and got three points there and that’s what a champions team is made of. They’ve been proving that,” Van Persie said.
“But the last stretch is always the difficult one. But my personal feeling is that they’ll go for it and they’ll do it and win the league. It’s been a while, so I’m happy for them to win it.”
Despite his brief stint at Manchester United before Sir Alex Ferguson retired, Robin van Persie is still held in high regard by Arsenal fans. He brings up a valid point about the recent successes Arsenal has had in big games, and the team has been able to address some of the concerns that were raised earlier in the season.
However, with some crucial games on the horizon, Arsenal must start strong after the international break. It is now a critical juncture, and any misstep could give Manchester City an advantage in the title race. Arsenal needs to maintain their level of play to stay in contention.
