“My feeling is” – Fabrizio Romano drops big Ilkay Gundogan future update at Man City

According to an exclusive report by Fabrizio Romano for GIVEMESPORT, Ilkay Gundogan, the midfielder for Manchester City, will delay making a decision about his future until after the Champions League final. Gundogan’s current contract with the club is set to end in June.

Manchester City news – Ilkay Gundogan

According to the Mirror, Ilkay Gundogan, the 32-year-old German international, has not yet made a choice regarding his future for the upcoming season. Reports suggest that both Barcelona and Arsenal have shown interest in acquiring his talents.

Despite Manchester City’s usual contract policy for players over 30, which typically involves offering only a one-year extension, there are indications from the same source that the club may be willing to make an exception for Ilkay Gundogan. The £20m star has reportedly requested a two-year extension, and City might consider granting his wish.

Gundogan has played a crucial role for City in the latter part of the season, leading the team as captain during a remarkable 12-game winning streak.

This impressive run allowed City to surpass Arsenal in the standings and secure the Premier League title with three matches remaining. With upcoming finals against Manchester United in the FA Cup and Internazionale in the Champions League, Gundogan will aim to help his club achieve an unprecedented treble.

What has Romano said about Gundogan and Manchester City?

Romano told GIVEMESPORT: “At the moment the player has not decided anything and my feeling is nothing will be decided before the Champions League final. Gundogan wants to win everything with Man City and then decide, so at the moment this is the Gundogan situation.”

Manchester City currently find themselves in a fortunate position where they can afford to lose any player from their squad, with the exception of Kevin De Bruyne or Erling Haaland.

However, there is a growing argument that John Stones could potentially join that exclusive group. Consequently, despite Ilkay Gundogan’s recent impressive performances, his age means that he is not an absolute priority for the team in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Nonetheless, Gundogan’s leadership qualities and his ability to score crucial goals in title-winning moments are invaluable to the team. Furthermore, he is not expected to demand exorbitant wages.

Throughout his career, Gundogan has relied on his technical skills and intelligence rather than physical attributes, suggesting that he will likely maintain his quality over the next two years without experiencing a significant decline, similar to how Luka Modric has aged at Real Madrid.

Ultimately, the decision regarding Ilkay Gundogan’s future will rest with Pep Guardiola, as he holds significant influence over Manchester City’s squad.

However, from the perspective of others, retaining Gundogan for an additional two years appears to be an obvious and straightforward choice. Given Gundogan’s recent performances and contributions to the team, many would consider it a logical decision to extend his contract.
