‘More than Neymar’: Director says the winger Arsenal are attempting to sign is ‘special.’

At COPE’s Great Match show, Leeds United Director of Football Victor Orta praised rumoured Arsenal target Raphinha, stating he does more defensive effort than his Brazil international teammate and Paris Saint-Germain striker Neymar.

Raphinha has recently made headlines, with Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea, and Xavi’s Barcelona all interested in signing the Brazil international winger from Leeds during the summer transfer window.

According to the Times, Arsenal made a £35 million deal, which the West Yorkshire club turned down.

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea and Barcelona have made bids for the former Rennes player.

Raphinha is “special,” according to Leeds Director of Football Orta, who believes he is better than former Barcelona attacker Neymar.

According to The Yorkshire Evening Post/Joe Brennan, Orta stated of Raphinha on COPE’s Great Match show: “He’s good. He has good legs, physically very good, works a lot off the ball.

“He is an exciting player, and then going forward, he can take on players, get away from players, he’s difficult to play against.

“He’s one of the guys who runs the most in the league. He’s a special player, he’s got similarities to Neymar.

“He plays well on the wing but runs back much more than Neymar, he defends much more than Neymar.”

Raphinha is said to prefer joining Barcelona, but if the former La Liga and UEFA Champions League winners are unable to reach an agreement with Leeds United, a window could open for Arsenal.

Of course, the Gunners will have to up their offer by at least £20 million in order to get Leeds to the bargaining table.

Would Arsenal be willing to do so?
