Mikel Arteta’s three-month Arsenal plan as he makes unique training ground change

Mikel Arteta has stated that he has been paying close attention to Martin Odegaard in Arsenal training, but the Norwegian’s efforts may take three months to be noticed.

Odegaard, who joined Arsenal on a permanent basis from Real Madrid last summer, has mostly impressed for the Gunners and contributed a respectable lot in terms of goal-scoring, with six strikes to his record from midfield.

Arsenal supporters first saw the Norwegian midway through the previous season, when he came on loan.

After liking what he saw, Arteta agreed to pay £30 million to bring the midfielder from Real Madrid as part of the Gunners’ extraordinarily busy summer transfer window.

It has proven to be a wise option, but as the Arsenal manager stated, there is still much more to come.

In an interview with Norwegian television station TV2, Arsenal manager  revealed the type of training Odegaard has recently undergone in his attempt to improve himself. Arteta is collaborating closely with Odegaard in particular.

“What we are working on now, you will see in three months or six months. What Martin is doing now, you do not see on the field now. We see it in three months, six months or a year,” Arteta added.

“Right now you may see the results of some of what he has been working on for the last six months. People said that he was unstable, that he could not do this and that, but then he filled out the form to be ready now.”

The 23-year-old took the armband for the first time for the Gunners during Saturday’s away defeat against Southampton and has been mentioned as a possible candidate to take over as captain next season.

When asked whether Odegaard may one day captain Arsenal, Arteta answered reporters:

“He certainly has all the qualities to do that, absolutely. Talking to his national team coach and how highly they speak of him. He walks through the corridor and everybody loves him.

“He is such a nice, humble guy and he leads with the way he is. It is very natural for him and that will come.” The Gunners manager also explained how Odegaard “represents everything we want in this club – he is a good option [for the captaincy].”

In a club that includes a huge personality like Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland, the playmaker is already the captain of his national team.
