Report alleges Mikel Arteta has made a massive U-turn based on star’s display at Euro 2020 this summer.
While widespread interest in international football may be narrowing unless there’s a major competition on, there are some players who just seem to shine when they pull on their national team’s shirt.
Granit Xhaka is the classic example for Switzerland as he serves to look important regardless of what’s going on at Arsenal, and he was excellent this summer as the Swiss flouted expectations in Euro 2020.
Those accomplishments were reasonably met with dismay among Gunners supporters who wondered why they would be looking to let someone with that talent go, but a report from The Athletic via Goal has indicated that Mikel Arteta is going to make a huge U-turn.
It was believed that he would sign for Roma and Arteta was happy to let him go after some poor displays last season, but it’s now believed that he’s changed his mind because of how well he did for Switzerland this summer.
That can be a dangerous move as some players will look better in a particular system or playing in a certain style, so it will be interesting to see how he fares next season if this does happen.
The Gunners are now strongly considering a new deal offer for the midfielder
Arsenal have reversed course on Granit Xhaka and could now offer a deal extension for the midfielder notwithstanding an offer from Roma on the table, reports The Athletic.
