Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has assured Gunners fans that Charlie Patino’s first-team debut “will happen.”

On Wednesday night, the North Londoners defeated Wimbledon 3-0 in the Carabao Cup.

Patino was expected to play for Arsenal, but he did not even make the matchday squad.

According to football.london, Arteta chose to give Thomas Partey more playing time in order to prepare him for the Spurs match this weekend.

After the win over the Dons, the Spaniard admitted that “some players needed some minutes.”

He did, however, try to reassure Arsenal fans who were looking forward to seeing the 17-year-old starlet in action.

“He was very close,” football.london quotes Arteta as saying.

“In the end we decided that some players needed some minutes – it will happen in time.

“Charlie’s been good. He played a practice match at Colney and he was really good.

“Again, give him time and we will prepare him.”

The Gunners’ coaches are said to be very fond of the Hale End gem.

Patino was promoted to the Under-23s last season – a fantastic achievement given his age – and made four appearances.

This season, he’s been a regular for the Under-23s and has looked a cut above – proof that a senior debut isn’t far away.

Some Arsenal supporters have even made comparisons with the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla:
