The Gunners, manager Mikel Arteta is looking forward to facing his Arsenal predecessor Unai Emery after his Villarreal side booked a place for the semi-finals of the Europa League after eliminating Ajax.
Arsenal have reached the Europa League final back in 2019 and lost to Chelsea this time conquered Czech giants Slavia Prague 4-0 in the second-leg of their quarter-final clash at the Sinobo Stadium which was crucial in securing a place in the semi-final against Emery’s men.
Mikel Arteta replaced Emery at Emirates Stadium in December 2019 and the two managers will now face each other for the first time in their coaching careers.
Emery is the most successful coach in the history of the Europa League and his Villareal swept aside beat Dinamo Zagreb to set up the exciting semi-final clash.

After the game, Arteta said:
“Yes it will be really tough,”
“Villarreal are a tough team and Unai is probably the most successful manager in this competition, and he totally deserves that.
“We know the opponent we are going to be facing, and now we focus on Fulham, we won’t have any time to train, just make sure we recover and get ready to go again.”
Mikel Arteta was full of praise for his players for empathic and rampant performance in Prague, which just came days after a similar display against Sheffield United.
Speaking about his team impressive performance, the Spaniard said:
“We came into a tough place. This team hasn’t lost at home in almost two years.
So, to do what we’ve done tonight credit to the players for how they approached the game and how brave they were in our approach.
“And then I think when we demand from them efficiency, today is a good example of the level of efficiency you need to win matches in Europe away from home like this.”
