Mikel Arteta sends message to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang amid admiration for Martin Odegaard

Mikel Arteta has given appreciation to Martin Odegaard, the current captain of Arsenal, despite the fact that the spotlight has been on his former captain.

The 23-year-old Norwegian attacking midfielder leads the Gunners into Sunday’s match against Manchester United with the only perfect record in the Premier League this season.

In two of these five victories, Odegaard has scored. As the momentum in the red half of north London begins to grow, he has also supplied a quiet leadership.

“He’s a really humble, hungry player,” said Arteta. “that has a tremendous quality.

“He puts that quality to the service of the team. He’s always willing to do things for others and he’s a great role model for the rest of the players and staff.”

When asked about Aubameyang, whose contract with the Gunners was voided after he was stripped of the captaincy in January, Arteta said, “I wish him all the best. That’s it.”

This is Arsenal’s greatest start to a season since the 2004-05 campaign, in which they finished second.

Asked whether the run justified his decision to hand the responsibility to Odegaard, Arteta counted: “We tried to pick the person and professional who, in our opinion, represented the best who we are as a club and what we want to be as a team and so far Martin has done that.”

Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli have both scored three goals thus far this season for Arteta’s squad.

Arsenal’s weakness last season cost them a spot in the Champions League, and Arteta has conceded that his squad need a fresh voice with confidence racing through their veins.

“In every period a team needs a different coach. What they needed a month ago, six months ago, to what they need now is different. We have to work and adapt and try to understand what the temperature is in the dressing room.”

On the eve of the Transfer Deadline, Arsenal supporters took to social media to lament the club’s inability to sign Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz.

However, Arteta opted to commend Technical Director Edu Gaspar and the club for supporting the recruitment of five players for over £100 million prior to preseason.

It organized and prepared the team for the current season, in which they continue to break new ground.

Arteta said: “It’s about expectations. Probably everybody was expecting we could do something with the departures we had.

“We cannot forget what we did early. We are happy with the squad we have.

“The board has pushed the boat very, very far to try to accommodate the situation we have. The ownership has been absolutely brilliant. Everybody can see that.”

Due to a mild knee sprain, Oleksandr Zinchenko is doubtful for Sunday’s match.
