Mikel Arteta on Eddie Nketiah: ‘Good things happen to good people’
After Eddie Nketiah’s brace in Wednesday’s 4-2 Premier League triumph at Chelsea, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta emphasized that “good things happen to good people”
The 22-year-old took advantage of Andreas Christensen’s mistake to open the scoring at Stamford Bridge before prodding home early in the second half to help Arsenal snap a three-game losing streak against the European champions.
Following Alexandre Lacazette’s COVID-19 recovery, Nketiah was making only his second Premier League start of the 2021-22 season, and Arteta was full of praise for the Englishman after the exhilarating triumph.
The Spaniard also gave respect to team members Mohamed Elneny and Rob Holding, both of whom excelled during rare Premier League appearances for the Gunners, who are vying for a place in the top four.
“What I’ve been saying all the time about Eddie. When you look at him in training and how humble he is all the time, good things happen. Good things happen to good people. The same with Mo Elneny and Rob Holding,” Arteta told reporters at his post-match press conference.
Arsenal also had goals from Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe, bringing them level on points with Tottenham Hotspur but still trailing their North London rivals on goal differential.
Arteta’s team are now three points ahead of Manchester United with a game in hand and will look to strengthen their top-four chances at the cost of the Red Devils in Saturday’s match at the Emirates.
