Mikel Arteta issues an update on Bukayo Saka’s potential injury
Bukayo Saka was replaced during Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Manchester United at the Emirates today, as the boss disclosed that he was already carrying a knock from midweek.
The youngster started the game on the right, which allowed him to give extra protection for Cedric while dropping in at wing-back and providing an outlet in attack.
He was outstanding from the start, with his effort being the spark for Nuno Tavares’ first goal, earning and scoring the penalty that gave the Gunners the early two-goal lead, and making sure to keep the Red Devils on the back foot for much of the game.
His availability for the West Ham game next weekend is now in doubt, after the manager confessed that he let Saka play despite picking up a knock against Chelsea, and he now needs to wait for word from his backroom staff on his situation.
The manager told Arsenal Media after the final whistle:
“Bukayo was struggling even first half of the match, but he really wanted to do it, he had a big knock the other night and as soon as this he was struggling, so let’s see how he is.”
