Mikel Arteta forced to take quick action as Chelsea emerge as ‘dark horses’ to land long-term Arsenal transfer target

This winter, Chelsea is rumored to be interested in Youri Tielemans and will compete with Arsenal for the Leicester City midfielder.

Since coming from Monaco in January 2019, the 25-year-old has been one of Leicester City’s most notable players. After a series of spectacular performances, a six-month loan contract became permanent. And he has scored 27 goals in 175 outings across all competitions.

The Belgium international has scored 21 goals and assisted on 19 in the Premier League.

He scored the game’s sole goal as the East Midlanders defeated Chelsea in the 2021 FA Cup final to win the trophy.

Unsurprisingly, several elite clubs have been mentioned. However, Arsenal continues to be discussed in conjunction with the former Anderlecht star.

Last summer, the Gunners were extensively connected to the gifted playmaker.

Despite their clear interest, the north London club did not make a bid for Tielemans, who remained at Leicester City.

At the conclusion of 2022-2023, he will become a free agent and will be eligible for transfer.

As he is free to speak to international teams in the new year, others will undoubtedly join the picture.

The Daily Mail claimed earlier in the week that the Emirates giants intend to prevent this by signing him in January.

Nonetheless, a new suitor has entered the scene. According to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs, Chelsea have emerged as “dark horses.”

Arsenal have had an outstanding start to the Premier League season and are now in first place.

They lead Manchester City by five points and are challenging the Citizens’ dominance.

At the World Cup break, Newcastle and Tottenham complete the top four, with Chelsea in seventh place.

After a string of dismal results, Graham Potter is now in charge of Chelsea and must rouse his team.

The west Londoners are 16 points behind Mikel Arteta’s squad with no wins in their last five outings.

And they must make up eight points on fourth-place Tottenham in order to qualify for the Champions League next season.

Arsenal appears to have the highest chance of victory at the moment, which might give them an advantage in their pursuit of Tielemans.

Todd Boehly, though, has made it clear he would financially support the manager. And he will likely provide the funds if Potter goes all out to acquire the Leicester schemer.

With only a few months remaining on his contract, however, Tielemans won’t cost too much. Indeed, it is believed that £20 million could be sufficient to close a transaction.

Both clubs are rumored to be recruiting in January. And it could be a simple matter to capture the player with 58 Belgium caps.

Respected transfer expert Fabrizio Romano predicted last month that Tielemans will ‘absolutely not’ sign a new contract with Leicester.

His time under Brendan Rodgers appears to be winding out. And only time will tell if he ends up in the capital’s west or north.
