Midfielder’s agent in London as Chelsea look to launch Man Utd transfer hijack of a player who wants to work under Erik ten Hag
The agent for Frenkie de Jong has reportedly flown into London as Chelsea attempt to derail Manchester United’s pursuit of the Dutchman.
The midfielder has been a target for the Red Devils all summer, but they are unable to reach an agreement with Barcelona.
Despite club president Joan Laporta’s recent denials, the La Liga giants are reported to be preparing to sell him due to their severe financial woes.
So yet, United has failed to raise the necessary funds to entice them into sanctioning his departure.
This has opened the door for Chelsea, who are finally ramping up their own transfer activity.
Thomas Tuchel is said to be interested in adding a midfielder to his team, with De Jong surfacing as a possible target.
Among those claims, De Jong’s representatives are said to have boarded a plane bound for London.
According to Spanish media, his representative has come in London to discuss his client’s potential deal with United.
It is a setback for Chelsea, who have made their interest in the 25-year-old known in recent days. Another blow for the Blues is that De Jong is thought to favour a move to Old Trafford.

The player’s agent is now in London, according to AS journalist Manu Sainz, for a meeting with the Red Devils.
Despite recent rumours that Chelsea has entered the race for De Jong, the story suggests Manchester United has a slight advantage in the race.
Even if the Blues want the 25-year-old, the player ‘prefers the idea of heading to Old Trafford’ since he would be able to meet his former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag.
The intriguing thing here is that he references the tweet pointing out that De Jong’s first option is to stay in Barcelona after making all of those allegations in a single tweet.
So it’s evident once more that he’s just relocating because his club requires him to.
According to Catalan media today, Barcelona wants €80 million for De Jong.
With Chelsea joining the competition, the Camp Nou side expected Manchester United to come back stronger for him. So maybe that’s what’s going on right now.
