The former Arsenal and Germany playmaker Mesut Ozil dream move to Fenerbahce seemed a relief to a player who was well known for his assists after his spell at Arsenal hit bottom low after he was axed from the team squad. No relief however to once feared player as he struggling for performance at his new club.
The 32 years old player joined Fenerbahce at a time when the Turkish based club was enjoying the great performance and firmly in grip of their first title in seven years.
Things have however taken a different dimension as the Turkish giants have lost three out of their five games and dropped to position three in the Turkish Super lig standings. The team misery has been further compounded by them being knocked out of the Turkish cup by Istanbul Basaksehir.
So far, Ozil has had a dry spell without any goal or assist by his name. He has spent 322 minutes actively involved on the pitch out of which he has managed to register four attempts towards goal with three of the attempts being off-target.
Ozil role as an attacking midfielder is more of creating goals than scoring yet he has only made three passes that have lead to a shot on goal with eight passes into the penalty area without making any successful dribble.
Arsenal fans knew Ozil tendency of disappearing through football games when a lot was expected of him and maybe worried that his best days when he would make a piece of match-winning masterclass performance are long gone.
On a positive note though it will be very unfair to attribute Fenerbahce recent poor performance to Mesut Ozil, who just need time to adapt bearing in mind it has been long without him being involved in any football game.
