Mauricio Pochettino issues update on his future with Man Utd keen to make him their new manager
Mauricio Pochettino still wants to lead Paris Saint-Germain to Champions League glory, but he is unsure whether he will be available to do so next season.
The Argentine is Manchester United’s top aim to become their new permanent manager, with Erik ten Hag, Luis Enrique, and Thomas Tuchel among the other candidates still in the running.
Pochettino’s career in Paris is in jeopardy following PSG’s Champions League exit last week, when they blew a 2-0 lead against Real Madrid.
While he may receive offers to depart in the near future, Pochettino has stated that he intends to return and win the same championship with the French giants next season.
“We are competitive by nature. This kind of challenge is an exciting one to take on… To give the possibility to fight for this (Champions League) title, it’s exciting,” Pochettino said.
“Beyond the sadness, to give PSG the possibility to fight to fulfil their objectives is always a great challenge. And yes, we feel capable of it.
“Afterwards, it’s a question of exchanges. We will have to sit down with the club to exchange. To find the best formula.
“To see the vision, the future, the ideas, the project.”
Zinedine Zidane has been projected to take over as PSG manager if Pochettino leaves, with the former Tottenham manager unable to declare whether he will still be in command this summer.
“We will analyse everything at the end of the season,’ said Pochettino.
“We will see at the end of the season (if I stay). It will be the club’s decision.”
