Mason Greenwood United’s return status  clear despite being named on team squad list

Mason Greenwood has been listed on Manchester United’s official Premier League squad list despite being suspended by the club pending the outcome of his ongoing police investigation.

Greenwood, who was detained in late January on charges of alleged rape, assault, and murder threat, has been added to United’s roster of Under-21 players eligible to participate in the league this season.

The 20-year-old does not need to be listed in Erik ten Hag’s 25-man squad due to his age.

Because the suspended forward remains a club employee, he is automatically placed in the roster.

Manchester United did not include Greenwood in their 25-man Europa League group stage roster.

While Greater Manchester Police continue to investigate him, he is currently out on bail.

His player profile remains on the club’s official website, however shirts with his name and No. 11 cannot be purchased by supporters.

The situation with Greenwood has not changed despite his placement on the squad roster.

As Greater Manchester Police continue their investigation, he remains free on bail.

Greenwood was not included in United’s Europa League roster.

Greenwood made his senior debut for United in March of 2019 and has scored 35 goals in 129 total games for the club.

Two times, the club has refuted web rumors that he would soon return to first-team training.

In April, a club representative clarified why his profile remains on the club’s website while being removed from their mobile app.

“There has been no change whatsoever in Mason’s status,” the spokesperson said.

“We removed his profile from the club app soon after he was removed from the squad in January.”
