Mason Greenwood scheduled to appear in court on charges of attempted rape
Mason Greenwood, a Manchester United footballer, will appear in court charged with attempted rape.
The forward, 21, is also accused of assault and controlling and coercive behavior.
The three charges all pertain to the same woman.
Greenwood, who has one England cap, will appear in court on Monday at Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester.
Last month, he was granted bail in the same court, with conditions that he not contact witnesses, including the complainant, and that he reside at an address on Bow Green Road in Bowdon.
The player was arrested for the first time in January on allegations involving a young woman after images and videos were posted online.
He had been on bail since then, but was arrested in the Trafford area on October 15 for an alleged breach of conditions, only to be granted bail a few days later.
Greenwood is accused of controlling and coercive behavior between November 2018 and October this year, during which time she allegedly made threatening and derogatory comments to the complainant while also accessing and monitoring her social media accounts.
The charge of assault resulting in actual bodily harm was filed in December 2021.
Greenwood was suspended from playing and training with the Old Trafford club within hours of the allegations surfacing online at the start of the year.
Greenwood’s sponsorship deal with Nike was suspended and later terminated, while Electronic Arts confirmed his removal from active squads in its Fifa 22 game.
