Marina Granovskaia is in discussions to finalize Chelsea’s fifth transfer deal of the summer window.
The transfer window may have only been unlocked for less than two weeks in England but now it is starting to become a very bustling period for some clubs.
Chelsea, who will face Crystal Palace on the first day of the 2021/22 Premier League campaign, are one of those that have endured a busy start to the window, with no deficiency of faces having already left the club on permanent contracts.
So far, the headline exit is that of center-back Fikayo Tomori, who finally made his permanent switch to AC Milan in a £25million deal following a prosperous loan spell.
Elsewhere, Victor Moses has joined Spartak Moscow on a permanent deal, once again after a successful loan spell, whilst Pierre Ekwah-Elimby has made a move to West Ham United and forgotten midfielder Danilo Pantic has also left the club, with the Serbian returning to former side Partizan Belgrade.
But with Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel hopeless to add fresh faces to his team this summer, especially ones with big price tags attached to their names, the Blues’ clear-out is set to proceed, with director Marina Granovskaia the one accountable for trimming the size of Tuchel’s squad and then reinvesting the money made in new signings, such as top targets Achraf Hakimi and Erling Haaland.
In a bid to make sure the Blues can raise as much funding as possible this summer to finance new signings, another agreement looks set to be on its way to being completed.
According to reports in Italy, Fiorentina have officially opened talks with Chelsea to conclude a deal for forgotten defender Davide Zappacosta. The Italian, who joined the Blues back in August 2017 from Torino, has spent the last two seasons out on loan, spending time with both Roma and Genoa.
With that in mind, he is not going to count in Tuchel’s long-term plans in west London, meaning a departure would be best for all affected.
However, given that Zappacosta produced some remarkable displays whilst on loan at Genoa it has put him in the shop window, with Fiorentina becoming very involved in landing his signature.
According to the Italian newspaper La Nazione, as cited by Inside Futbol, Fiorentina are interested to sign the 29-year-old and have opened talks about trying to wrap up a deal. The report also asserts that Chelsea are ready to offload the right-back for around £6.8m.
Inter Milan are another club to have been associated with Zappacosta, but Fiorentina are the club that has made the first move to get a deal over the line.
Considering Chelsea contracted Zappacosta almost four years ago for around £24m, plus add-ons, they are going to take a punch in regards to this sale if it goes through. However, recouping £6.8m for a player that has no future at the club is likely to be seen as good trade.
The amount of the bid that Fiorentina have lodged has not been reported.
In all, the Italian has made 52 appearances for Chelsea, scoring two goals and claiming four assists.
