Marcus Rashford pleads with supporters after Man Utd affirm Raphael Varane agreement

Marcus Rashford has pleaded with Manchester United supporters to “stop spamming” his social media accounts after the Red Devils validated an agreement had been reached with Real Madrid for Raphael Varane.

The announcement brings to an end months of gambling connecting the Frenchman to Old Trafford, with a fee of £42.7million thought to have been agreed.

Varane is perceived to have penned a four-year deal with the Red Devils worth around £250,000-a-week.

He will become United’s third signing of the summer transfer window, following on from the arrival of Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho and Aston Villa goalkeeper Tom Heaton.

At one stage during discussions, United seemed worried that Varane was using them to secure a better deal at Real Madrid.

Those doubts are now over after the Red Devils proved on Tuesday that an agreement had been reached to sign the World Cup winner.

“Manchester United is delighted to announce the club has reached agreement with Real Madrid for the transfer of Raphaël Varane, subject to a medical and to player terms being finalised,” a statement read.

Confirmation of Varane’s impending arrival will be news to the ears of United fans – and striker Marcus Rashford.

The England international has been blasted with messages from hopeless supporters on social media pressing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to complete a deal for the center-half.

United tweet the announcement with the line: “Bonsoir, Reds. We have agreed a deal in principle for the transfer of Raphael Varane to United!”

And Rashford, sensing his chance to have a cheeky dig back at the club’s fans, responded with his own message mimicking the tweet.

“Can we please stop spamming my posts now, oui oui,” the England international wrote.

Varane’s arrival is an outstanding one for Solskjaer as he looks to build a squad able of challenging Manchester City for the Premier League title.

It means captain Harry Maguire now has a world-class centre-back partner after two seasons flitting between Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly.

Whether it is the final bit of the puzzle for United this summer, only time will tell.
