Marcus Rashford discloses his best position at Manchester United after Nottingham Forest win
Marcus Rashford admitted that he loves to play on the left wing after scoring his tenth goal of the season in Manchester United’s 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Tuesday evening at Old Trafford.
A week after scoring an excellent solo goal against Burnley in the Carabao Cup, the Manchester United academy product connected with a well-worked Christian Eriksen corner to score a magnificent goal in the 19th minute. Three minutes later, he turned provider, setting up Anthony Martial for the Reds’ second goal.
Rashford, who started on the left wing, was a continuous threat and was nearly given carte blanche by manager Erik ten Hag due to the positions he assumed. Just past the hour mark, when Martial was replaced by Alejandro Garnacho, he moved to the center.
The majority of fans and analysts believe Rashford is better suited to play on the wing and cut inside onto his stronger right foot. This is also the capacity in which the 25-year-old believes he excels.
“I think it depends on the opposition and the personality that you’re playing against,” Rashford told Amazon Prime Video. “More often than not, I prefer to play on the left.
“But if there is a weakness in the middle or there is a certain style of player that I feel I can exploit, then I like to have the freedom to try and move and try and do that. I like to see what I can sense on the pitch.”
Rashford’s goal against Forest was the result of a skillfully executed corner routine. Rashford sprinted in front of the majority of Forest defenders to connect with the ball and deflect it away from goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey after Eriksen played it in low.
On picking up the right position to score, Rashford added: “I feel comfortable in those positions and I want to put myself in those positions in games to score goals. I want to be in the box for corners where the goals are scored.”
