Marcus Rashford delivers candid view on Man Utd injury woes amid Carabao Cup final concerns
Marcus Rashford has stated that the difficulties he has faced in the past have motivated him to regain lost time at Manchester United by displaying exceptional form throughout this season.
The talented English player has been performing at his best for the Red Devils in recent months and if he is declared fit to play against Newcastle at Wembley Stadium in the Carabao Cup final this weekend, he will strive to deliver another exceptional performance
During the current campaign, Rashford has been fortunate to have fewer injuries as compared to his previous seasons where he had to play with pain due to a stress fracture in his shoulder that occurred in 2020.
In a frank interview with the Manchester Evening News, the United striker has talked about the impact it had on his mental and physical well-being.
However, Rashford is determined to leave those difficulties behind and focus on maintaining his excellent performance for the Red Devils.
“To be honest, I don’t think anyone – apart from the people at the club – they don’t know how long I was dealing with those issues and they probably won’t know until I say,” said Rashford.
“But it wasn’t just one season, it was a period of time where every day was tough and you have to just sacrifice and I’ve always been one to try and be out on the pitch as much as I possibly can. And for me, that’s where I get the happiness.
“If I’m out injured, I’m not happy. I’m dealing with the pain and I’m not happy. So I would rather try and deal with the pain as long as I can perform and still help the team, I’d always choose to do that.
“At times, you have to pull yourself out and if you don’t, then you have to get people around you to pull yourself out and that’s what happened with the shoulder situation last season. It was the right time to get it fixed, I recovered quite quickly from that.
“And then the season happened, I can’t get it back, but one thing I can do is just learn from it and try and do everything I can to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
It is uncertain whether Rashford will be able to play against Newcastle in the upcoming weekend, as he was replaced due to an injury during the match against Barcelona on Thursday night. Erik ten Hag, the United coach, has expressed uncertainty about Rashford’s availability for the game at Wembley.
“I don’t know,” said the Dutchman. “Players are now coming in, we have to do investigations, medical, so straight after a game you can’t say. You have to wait for medical.”
