Manchester United want ‘next Haaland’ sensation who has scored 141 goals in 88 games
The Times reports that Manchester United is in pursuit of Borussia Dortmund sensation Youssoufa Moukoko.
United has showed interest in Moukoko, an 18-year-old who scored 141 goals in 88 youth games for Borussia Dortmund.
United has a lot of obstacles in a prospective deal for the highly coveted Moukoko if it is to win the race.
Moukoko made his debut for Germany shortly prior to the World Cup, despite being of Cameroonian descent.
According to The Times, Moukoko’s contract will expire in June 2023. This has caused Dortmund to scramble to extend his contract, with little luck thus far.
Their last offer of £4.4 million per year was turned down, and the striker is rumored to be seeking £6 million per year from any team interested in signing him.
Manchester United faces competition for his signature from Chelsea and Liverpool. Strikers are in high demand, and Manchester United has a specific need.
Moukoko has been likened to Erling Haaland, even substituting for him in his Bundesliga debut at the age of 16.
In addition to his remarkable youth football record, Moukoko has made a rapid transition to senior football.
In 14 Bundesliga games this season, Moukoko has scored six goals and dished out four assists for a total of 11 goals for Dortmund’s first squad.
He is the youngest player in Bundesliga history to reach double figures.
He scored six goals in five games at the under-21 level for Germany.
Erling Haaland lauded Moukoko while he was in Dortmund’s academy, cited by the Bundesliga website: “Moukoko is much better than I was at his age. I have never seen such a good 15-year-old in my life.”
Germany boss Hansi Flick added: “Youssoufa is quite simply developing really well. He’s quick, lively and a good finisher.”
