Manchester United suffers massive injury blow ahead of Spurs and Chelsea encounters
Manchester United have suffered a major injury setback ahead of their match against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday.
It’s a big week for United, who face two London-based top-four contenders in four days, starting with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
But first up is a clash with Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
United is currently seven points behind Tottenham, despite having played one fewer game, but they have only lost one of their last seven league games, to Manchester City.
Spurs’ victory would be a real statement victory as they look to close the gap on Arsenal at the top of the table to just one point.
Tottenham will be hoping to take advantage of a United team missing Anthony Martial.
The forward, who was on loan at Sevilla last season, has two goals and two assists in 104 minutes of Premier League action this season.
The Frenchman was unavailable for the goalless draw against Newcastle United on Sunday due to a back injury, and he will also be unavailable for Spurs’ visit.
Meanwhile, Christian Eriksen may be denied the opportunity to face his former club, with the ex-Spurs midfielder a doubt following his absence against Newcastle.
“Anthony Martial is not available,” Ten Hag said. “He’s back on the pitch but not in the team training.
“Christian Eriksen returned in the team training today, and we have to see how that works out, how he will recover if he has the energy tomorrow, so we have to wait for that.”
