Manchester United pursuing Real Madrid midfielder in €70 million deal
Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde and are willing to pay €70 million for him.
According to Catalan newspaper El Nacional, The Red Devils are interested in signing the Uruguayan midfielder during the summer transfer window.
Federico Valverde has come a long way since joining Real Madrid in July 2016 from Penarol. The 23-year-old has been widely tipped to be one of Los Blancos’ long-term solutions in the middle of the park over the last few years.
However, despite starting ten of the 12 games in which he has been available for selection, Valverde is not entirely satisfied with his current role in the Real Madrid first-team setup, according to the report. Nonetheless, his situation has piqued Manchester United’s interest.
The Red Devils have long been interested in Valverde, and have made previous attempts to sign him. However, if El Nacional’s claims are correct, next summer may be their best chance to swoop the Uruguayan international away from Real Madrid.
The interest in the 23-year-old is understandable given that Paul Pogba appears to be nearing the end of his contract, with Real Madrid among his suitors.
With Donny van de Beek also expected to leave Old Trafford due to his disagreements with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Manchester United will need to enter the transfer market for a midfielder, making Valverde a viable option.
The Premier League heavyweights recently suffered a setback in their pursuit of one Real Madrid star, Vinicius Junior.
When it comes to Valverde, however, there is reason to be optimistic, with Manchester United willing to pay €70 million to secure his services.
The report makes no mention of Real Madrid’s position on selling Valverde, and it will be interesting to see if Los Blancos are willing to sell him for €70 million if a €70 million bid is made.
For the time being, it appears that Valverde will be a popular figure in the transfer market as a result of his frustrations at Real Madrid, with Manchester United ready to make a move for him.
