Manchester United player now concedes retiring at Old Trafford is now becoming a ‘serious option
Raphal Varane’s signing has been a success, despite the fact that he endured a difficult first season with Manchester United.
Since taking over at Old Trafford, Erik ten Hag has relied heavily on the center-back, pairing him with Lisandro Martnez more often than not. With his international retirement at age 29, he will devote more time to club football.
Prior to France’s match against the Netherlands, GQ in France sat down with the Manchester United defender to discuss his career, past, present, and future.
During the interview, the Manchester United defender was asked about his next steps.
The major concern was whether he would join a different team or end his career with the Red Devils, as he has a contract with them until 2025.
Saying that was a ‘serious option’, he added: “I will finish my career either at Real Madrid, Manchester United or at Lens. It’s sure that I won’t do another club, but Madrid, it seems complicated. You don’t tend to go back generally. The most likely is that I end in Manchester or Lens.”
Since he has played football since the age of seven, the defender is understandably apprehensive about deciding to end his career. However, he is aware that he will have to make this decision at some point.
Manchester United supporters can rest assured that he is not seriously considering it at this time, but he admits that it has crossed his mind as he approaches his 30th birthday.
Varane has appeared 27 times in all competitions for the Red Devils this season.
