Manchester United may have their own Darwin Nunez who can save the Glazers millions
Manchester United are looking for a new forward this summer.
That has been widely established and remains true, even though Darwin Nunez has been allowed to join Liverpool.
And the Red Devils may have found their own version of Benfica’s star in young South American Alejandro Garnacho.
Manchester United have lost Edinson Cavani, who has left on a free transfer after two years at Old Trafford.
As a result, new manager Erik ten Hag has choices for his offence that include Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, and Anthony Elanga.
Regardless, United want another forward.
They were interested in Nunez but felt the price was too exorbitant, despite the fact that he scored 34 goals in all competitions last season for Benfica.
As a result, United will have to start from scratch.
Ten Hag is looking to improve his frontline and has linked Antony, Richarlison, and Sebastien Haller
However, in Garnacho, the Red Devils may have found their own South American hotshot ready to take on the Premier League.
United’s youth system has always been considered as one of the greatest in the industry.
And, of all the great prospects they have on their roster, Garnacho appears to be the most intriguing.
The 17-year-old made his debut at the end of last season, with Ralf Rangnick recognising him for his outstanding performances at development level.
And, as a South American with an eye for goal and the potential to improve, he can absolutely be United’s version of Nunez.
Clearly, he still has a lot to learn
However, his seven goals in the FA Youth Cup from six matches suggest he’s on the right route to becoming a superstar.
He scored three times in the Premier League 2 last season, as well as twice in the UEFA Youth League and U18 Premier League.
There’s even speculation of him being a wildcard for Argentina at the 2018 World Cup in Qatar.
He helped his chances of joining the squad by scoring and assisting for his country in their recent U20 match against Japan.
And, like Nunez, he can play anywhere along the front three.
His best form at the youth level has come when he’s been placed on the left wing, where Garnacho has made his impact.
However, he can also play on the right as well as down the middle.
United have big aspirations for the teenager, and the Red Devils are looking to hold down their young star to a new deal.
And, with other priorities, such as midfield, the Red Devils might save millions in the long run by tying Garnacho. down to a new contract.
Ten Hag is willing to put his faith in young and expects him to see more playing time next season.
And it will please United fans, many of whom have been clamouring for more opportunities for their latest wonderkid.
United believes they made the correct decision by declining to compete with Liverpool for Nunez.
Only time will tell whether they live to rue that mistake as they seek a better campaign.
