Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer denies Klopp, Guardiola and Tuchel coaching claim
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists that competing against three of the world’s best coaches at the same time is not an excuse.
Liverpool, Manchester City, and Chelsea are all led by three Champions League-winning coaches – Jurgen Klopp, Pep Guardiola, and Thomas Tuchel – and sit atop the Premier League table with 22 points, 21 points, and 20 points, respectively.
United are seventh in the table with 14 points after a 5-0 thrashing by Liverpool at Old Trafford, their worst-ever home defeat to their main rival.
Klopp led Liverpool to successive Champions League and Premier League titles, Guardiola has led City to three league titles since joining the club in 2016, and Tuchel led Chelsea to Champions League glory just four months into his tenure.
Following managerial changes, United were unable to entice Guardiola and then Klopp to join the club, and they did not approach Tuchel when he was available following his dismissal by Paris Saint-Germain last season.
In July, Solskjaer was given a new three-year contract, which has been criticized in light of United’s poor form.
They have lost five of their last nine games in all competitions and three of their last four in the league, conceding 11 goals in that time.
Despite the fact that Solskjaer’s position is becoming increasingly precarious, he dismissed the notion that he was unlucky to be pitted against such fierce competition.
“No, the time is now,” Solskjaer said. “And Manchester United has had tough times, difficult times before, and we’ve always bounced back and taken on challenges.
“Last season, yep, we’re second, this season we’ve started badly, we’ve hit a brick wall and you’ve got to get through that one, start building the performances, start building results, start with a clean sheet and see where that takes us to the end of the season.”
