After making his first appearance at Old Trafford in nearly 10 months against Burnley, Manchester United  manager Erik ten Hag believes Aaron Wan-Bissaka has a future with the club.

Wan-Bissaka recorded an assist on his return to the United lineup at home for the first time since the 0-0 draw with Watford on February 26 in the absence of Diogo Dalot, who was injured.

Wan-Bissaka, 25, has only made seven squad appearances this season due to injury and illness. Prior to starting in the League Cup victory over Burnley, he had only made one replacement appearance.

“Aaron Wan-Bissaka: it’s clear he has a future,” Ten Hag stressed. “He had some good years here at Man United, but from the start this season he had a lot of illnesses and injuries, so running behind.

“From the restart on he is fit and he could train with the team and you see him progressing, his fitness levels getting better, his performance levels getting better and I’m really happy today with his performance.

“He gave an assist – especially the way he gave the assist – about his movement in the right moment and timing, and of course a great pass by Bruno [Fernandes], but the assist is great. I’m happy with his performance. He did good.”

West Ham United are interested in signing Wan-Bissaka on loan during the January transfer window, and he was notified before the end of last season campaign that he was free to leave Manchester United if they received an acceptable offer.

United captain Harry Maguire was scheduled to start alongside Victor Lindelof in central defense but withdrew due to illness. Ten Hag is uncertain as to whether Maguire will be available for the December 27 Premier League match against Nottingham Forest.

“I can’t answer because Harry is sick, ill,” Ten Hag said. “I don’t know how that develops. We have to wait in the coming hours and coming days and then see if he’s available for Forest.”
