Manchester United lines up a four-man shortlist as Cristiano Ronaldo replacements

According to reports,  Manchester United  has compiled a shortlist of four prospective Cristiano Ronaldo successors for the January transfer season.

After terminating Ronaldo’s contract at the end of November due to his criticism of the club during an interview with Piers Morgan, the Red Devils are widely expected to move for a new striker the following month.

Due to Ronaldo’s departure, Man United manager Erik ten Hag may have as much as £173 million to spend in January, with a new striker considered as a priority.

According to  ESPN, the English side have identified Goncalo Ramos of Benfica, Cody Gakpo of PSV Eindhoven, Rafael Leao of AC Milan, and Joao Felix of Atletico Madrid as potential recruits.

According to the source, Manchester United are planning to contact Benfica to discover whether Ramos is available for transfer in the middle of the 2022-23 season.

The 21-year-old scored three goals in four appearances for Portugal at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and he has scored 14 goals and provided six assists in 21 matches for his club this season.

Gakpo is still widely linked with a move to Old Trafford, having held discussions with the 20-time English winners during the summer transfer window.

A recent report indicated that Manchester United are the only club to have discussed the potential of a January transfer with PSV.

The 23-year-old also excelled for his country at the World Cup, scoring three goals in five matches as the Netherlands advanced to the tournament’s quarterfinals.

Gakpo, who has also been linked to Arsenal and Real Madrid, scored 13 goals and registered 17 assists in 24 games for the Dutch national team during the 2022-23 season.

Felix is also being linked with a move to Manchester United following the end of his relationship with Diego Simeone, the current coach of Atletico Madrid.

However, any deal for the Portugal international would be hampered by the fact that his Spanish club reportedly values him at over £87 million despite his discontent.

Felix scored once and assisted on two goals in four World Cup appearances for his country, while his international teammate Leao scored twice in five matches.

Leao is also extensively linked with a move away from AC Milan, with the Italian champions having difficulty convincing him to sign a new contract at San Siro.

Man United could potentially pursue a new right-back during the winter transfer window, since Aaron Wan- Bissaka’s departure at the start of 2023 is generally anticipated.
