Manchester United in structural revamp with the appointment of first-ever Football and Technical Directors.

In the significance reorganization of the Old Trafford football operations, Manchester United has seen the appointment of John Murtough and Darren Fletcher to the first-ever positions of Football Director and Technical Director respectively.

Murtough was the head of Manchester United football development. He will now be in charge of all football strategy and development. He will be in charge of recruitment in both academy, women and men’s team.

The former Man United midfielder Darren Fletcher had recently returned to Old Trafford to take a role in coaching. Fletcher has been appointed as Technical Director and will work closely with Murtough. Fletcher will oversee long term player developments in his capacity as a technical director.

The appointment of these two directors will however not affect Manchester United coach Ole Gunnar role in the current team’s recruitment process. Woodward’s described these appointments as important in reinforcing the progress that the club has been making in recent years.

Matt Judge who is the head of Manchester United corporate development tasked with the role of transfers chief negotiator will work under the new title of Director of Football Negotiation and will be reporting to john Murtough.

John Murtough after his appointment said:

“It’s a privilege to be part of that process, and an honour to lead Manchester United’s football department, working alongside Ole, Casey and so many other truly outstanding staff all dedicated to delivering success to this club.”

He termed this as an exciting time for all people at United and promised more development to come.

Fletcher promised success for the club. He said:

“It is great to be back with the club and I am delighted to be taking on this new role.
“We are moving in the right direction and I am looking forward to continuing to work with Ole and his coaching team, and now with John as the football director, to help bring young players through and further develop the football side of the club.
“It’s fantastic to see that all the staff here are driving Manchester United forward towards a new era of success.”
