Manchester United finally breaks silence to Cristiano Ronaldo’s interview with Piers Morgan
Before replying, Manchester United is looking into the issue surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo’s interview with Piers Morgan.
A statement said: “Manchester United notes the media coverage regarding an interview by Cristiano Ronaldo.
“The club will consider its response after the full facts have been established.
“Our focus remains on preparing for the second half of the season and continuing the momentum, belief and togetherness being built among the players, manager, staff, and fans.”
Ronaldo stated he “felt betrayed” by the club in an interview with Morgan, published in The Sun newspaper.
The 37-year-old forward added that he feels he is being forced out of United, “Not only by the coach (Erik ten Hag), but also by two or three other people around the club”.
He said: “I feel betrayed.
“Some people, I feel, don’t want me here. Not just this year, but last year too.”
Ronaldo also touched on his relationship with Ten Hag, adding: “I don’t have respect for him because he doesn’t show respect for me.
“If you don’t have respect for me, I’m never gonna have respect for you.”
He also discussed Ralf Rangnick’s tenure at the club, who was named temporary manager following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s departure from the club last season.
The German has had much success as a football director, but he had not managed a team for more than two years before to taking over at United in November of last year, prompting Ronaldo to remark: “If you’re not even a coach, how are you going to be the boss of Manchester United? I’d never even heard of him.”
Ronaldo informed United that he wished to leave the club this summer if a good offer was offered, but no such offer has been made.
In August, he was criticized by his management for leaving early during a friendly against Rayo Vallecano. He was replaced at halftime during the warm-up match and videotaped outside the stadium prior to the conclusion of the game.
Last month, he declined to enter the game as a substitute during his team’s victory over Tottenham Hotspur. The next weekend, he was kept out of the United team for their match against Chelsea, and he trained by himself for a week before returning to the lineup for their 3-0 Europa League victory against Sheriff.
Due to illness, the Portugal international missed his team’s final Premier League match before the World Cup break, a 2-1 triumph against Fulham on Sunday.
This season, Ronaldo has struggled in front of goal. This season, the Portugal international has scored just one goal in 10 Premier League games.
He has played a more important role in the Europa League campaign for the Old Trafford club. Ronaldo has started each of United’s six matches in this competition, scoring two goals and registering two assists.
With only four starts in the Premier League, Ronaldo has essentially been relegated to a secondary role.
United is currently sixth in the Premier League standings before the World Cup break begins.
