Manchester United delivers Christian Eriksen injury update

Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Christian Eriksen sustained an ankle injury during Manchester United’s FA Cup victory over Reading in the fourth round.

Manchester United advanced to the next round of the competition with a 3-1 victory over the Championship team on Saturday night, courtesy of a brace from Casemiro and a goal from Fred.

It was another encouraging night for United as they look to end their trophy drought as it enters its sixth year, but Eriksen’s injury was a setback.

The 30-year-old was replaced by Fred shortly after United had taken the lead, after sustaining an injury from Andy Carroll’s robust challenge for Reading.

Eriksen has been a key player for United in his rookie season, and after the game, Ten Hag was questioned about the former Tottenham player’s injury.

“It is always difficult to say so short after the game finished,” he said. “But it is an ankle injury, and we have to see what is the diagnosis.”

Eriksen has participated in all but one of United’s matches this season, missing October’s scoreless draw with Newcastle.

United will next play on Wednesday night when they host Nottingham Forest in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.
