Manchester United ‘contact possible Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replacement’ following Cristiano Ronaldo’s advice

Manchester United has reportedly contacted Zinedine Zidane on Cristiano Ronaldo’s recommendation, as pressure mounts on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

United conceded four goals to Leicester City over the weekend, and the Red Devils have now gone three games without a win in the Premier League.

And Solskjaer could be on his way out as United face a difficult run of games, beginning with Atalanta on Wednesday night.

However, if the Norwegian is let go, United may already have a replacement lined up.

According to the Spanish outlet El Chiringuito, as reported by The Daily Star, the Red Devils have contacted Zidane on Ronaldo’s recommendation.

The Frenchman spent two seasons at Los Blancos, the first between 2016 and 2018, and the second between 2019 and 2021.

During that time, Zidane won two La Liga titles, but more importantly, he won the Champions League three times.

And Ronaldo was a key figure in each of Real Madrid’s Champions League victories under Zidane, the most recent coming shortly before his move to Juventus in 2018.

When Ronaldo moved to Serie A, the pair split up.

Gary Neville, on the other hand, believes his former team should stick with Solskjaer.

“He should be under massive pressure with the squad that’s been assembled and the fact he’s been in the job two-and-a-half, nearly three years,” Neville said on Monday Night Football.

“But the club are not going to change him and the club are going to stick with him until the end of the season.

“I’ve got Manchester United fans on my social media timeline all the time saying, ‘Gary, he’s your mate, you won’t call him out.’

“No, I won’t, no I won’t and I won’t call Steve Kean out or Arsene Wenger at Arsenal.

“I’m not going to come on this show 11 years later and ask for a manager to be sacked, it’s never gonna happen.

“He’s a club legend, he’s my teammate, I actually like him a lot and Manchester United have failed with two previous managers who have been world-class.”
