Manchester United can exploit Mason Greenwood as bait for a flawless summer swap deal
According to reports, AC Milan is interested in signing Mason Greenwood, who currently plays as a striker for Manchester United. The Italian club is said to appreciate the 21-year-old’s skills and abilities and are considering him as a potential transfer target.
Meanwhile, Manchester United’s plans for Greenwood’s future are uncertain. Additionally, there is speculation that AC Milan could offer Rafael Leao as part of a potential swap deal, as Erik ten Hag is also interested in him.
Mason Greenwood, who last played for Manchester United in January 2021, has reportedly expressed interest in playing football outside of the UK. Despite charges against him being dropped in February, United is yet to make a decision on his future.
It is possible that the 21-year-old striker may leave Old Trafford, and AC Milan appears to be a leading contender for his signature. Meanwhile, Manchester United is looking to strengthen their attacking options during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Manchester United is reportedly prioritizing the signing of a centre-forward, a fresh midfielder, and a new right-back in the upcoming transfer window. However, there is an argument for adding another winger to the squad.
Although Marcus Rashford has had an impressive season, scoring 28 goals across all competitions, Manchester United’s supporting cast has been inconsistent, which has frustrated manager Erik ten Hag.
Jadon Sancho, who arrived from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2021, has struggled for consistency, and Antony, who came from Ajax last year, has been inconsistent as well.
Although 18-year-old Alejandro Garnacho is a promising young talent, he may not be ready to start every game for Manchester United. The club has a long-standing interest in Rafael Leao, and a swap deal with AC Milan for Mason Greenwood could benefit both parties.

Leao was previously sought after by manager Erik ten Hag as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo in January, but Manchester United was unable to secure the funds to sign him at that time and opted for Wout Weghorst instead.
However, the interest in Leao remains, and it is possible that the Red Devils could pursue a swap deal to bring the Portuguese forward to Old Trafford.
If Rafael Leao were to join Manchester United from AC Milan, he would become the club’s fifth signing from Serie A since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.
Matteo Darmian was the first, arriving from Torino in 2015 under the management of Louis van Gaal. Sergio Romero followed that same summer, providing a steady presence in goal during his time in the Premier League.
Jose Mourinho signed Paul Pogba from Juventus in 2016, and under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Manchester United turned to Italy for the signings of Amad and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Concerning Greenwood, meanwhile, Ten Hag said back in February the club couldn’t afford to be diverted by the youngster’s situation.
“It’s really important but sometimes you get issues,” he said. “Then as a club and team you have to deal with it.
“We have standards and values. We have to live along those high standards and values and that gives a base if you have a good culture and spirit.
“That’s our job, not to get distracted by anything. We are human beings and sometimes there are issues, we are not like robots, but we have to focus on our job.
“We have so many games so we don’t have time to get distracted by anything. It’s not easy but that is our job.”
