Manchester City’s 21/22 player earnings list, with Haaland set to sign£500k-a-week deal
Manchester City are expected to sign Erling Braut Haaland in the summer.
According to The Times, many in authority at Borussia Dortmund believe the striker would join Pep Guardiola’s team after being given a huge salary package.
If he joins City, Haaland will earn more than £500,000 per week, making him one of the highest-paid players in Premier League history.
That pay would also make him the highest earner at the Etihad, which is saying a lot given how much money the club’s owners have spent into it in recent years.
So, how far ahead of the competition would Haaland be in terms of pay if he signed a massive £500,000-a-week contract?
The answer is quite a lot, according to the data available on Spotrac — which we cannot guarantee is completely correct.
However, assuming the stats below are true, a few City players are due for a raise…
Manchester City’s 21/22 player earnings
Phil Foden | £12,000-a-week
Oleksandr Zinchenko | £20,000-a-week
Zack Steffen | £46,000-a-week
Joao Cancelo | £80,000-a-week
Gabriel Jesus | £90,000-a-week
Nathan Ake | £92,308-a-week
Kyle Walker | £110,000-a-week
Ruben Dias | £115,385-a-week
Riyad Mahrez | £120,000-a-week
Aymeric Laporte | £120,000-a-week
Rodri | £121,154-a-week
Ilkay Gundogan | £140,000-a-week
Bernardo Silva | £150,000-a-week
Fernandinho | £150,000-a-week
John Stones | £250,000-a-week
Raheem Sterling | £300,000-a-week
Jack Grealish | £300,000-a-week
Kevin De Bruyne | £400,000-a-week
Given their value to the squad, as well as the salary of the other players on the list above, it’s safe to assume Cancelo, Dias, Silva, Rodri, Laporte, and Mahrez are underpaid.
On the other end of the spectrum, Grealish, Fernandinho, and Stones may be paid a touch too much.
De Bruyne’s salary is certainly high, but given that he is perhaps the best midfielder in the world, it’s acceptable that he earns £400,000 per week in today’s footballing climate.
But you have to wonder what the Belgian will be thinking if Haaland overtakes him as City’s highest-paid player.
De Bruyne is the team’s creator-in-chief and most important player, so you’d think he’d be upset if a 21-year-old surpassed him financially.
The playmaker will be even more irritated if Haaland does not hit the ground running and earn him plenty of assists.
