Manchester City superstar wants to depart and join Barcelona in the summer
With the summer transfer window approaching, the rumour mill has been spinning nonstop.
Barcelona, who are in the midst of a crucial transfer window, are at the centre of many of these transfer stories as they seek to develop a club capable of dethroning archrivals Real Madrid, who have won both the La Liga and the UEFA Champions League.
Despite having a well-stocked midfield, manager Xavi Hernandez is still looking to improve his options in the centre of the field, with Manchester City regular Bernardo Silva emerging as one of Barcelona’s favourite targets.
The Catalan giants have been connected with the Portuguese international since last summer, but a trade did not materialise because he stayed at the Etihad and helped Manchester City win another Premier League title.
According to Gerard Romero, Silva may be ready to move on in the forthcoming summer transfer window and may be open to joining with Barcelona before the next season.
The 27-year-old, who assisted on 20 goals last season, is under contract with Man City until the summer of 2025.
So signing him would necessitate a significant financial outlay on Barça’s behalf, which is just not feasible given the club’s current financial situation.
As a result, any summer move for Silva could be linked to the future of Catalans midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
The 25-year-old has been widely linked with a move away from Camp Nou as the summer transfer season approaches, with Manchester United reportedly interested.
If Barcelona sells the Netherlands international, it might clear the door for them to add Silva to their roster by producing revenue and freeing up salary bill space.
So, while the Manchester City superstar may be eager to join Barça, the La Liga club must first get their house in order to stand a chance of luring him in the summer.
