Manchester City star hints at permanent departure if European giants show interest
Joao Cancelo, a Manchester City loanee, has hinted at a permanent exit from the club.
Currently, the Portugal international is on loan with Bundesliga powerhouse Bayern Munich for the second half of the 2022-2023 season.
Cancelo was rumored to have left the Etihad on transfer deadline day, but both he and Pep Guardiola insisted there were no hard feelings involved in his departure.
In recent seasons, the 28-year-old had been a standout for City, playing a pivotal role in their back-to-back Premier League titles.
Cancelo may seek a permanent move away from England this summer, when the end of his loan spell approaches. According to Movistar via Fabrizio Romano, the defender said: “I’ve not received any proposal from Real Madrid in January, no… if rumours say so, I don’t know.
“If a club like Real Madrid wants you, it’s a pleasure — it also means I’m doing the right things”.
Bayern could also try to keep him beyond the summer if he performs well over the next five months.
If this is the case, Guardiola will likely seek a fullback in the upcoming transfer window.
