Manchester City set for huge eight-figure cash windfall through Tottenham transfer
Tottenham is close to signing Pedro Porro, a full-back from Sporting Lisbon, in a deal that could earn Manchester City a significant cash windfall. Officials at the North London club have been keen on signing the Spain international for a while, and are hopeful that they can reach an agreement for the player in the coming 24 to 48 hours.
According to reliable information, Tottenham is currently “tying up the final bits and pieces” of the deal, with terms now being the last step as a €45 million transfer fee for the player could be paid in three or four instalments.
Manchester City will almost certainly have been closely monitoring this saga, as the Premier League champions hold a financial interest in regards to the transfer fee agreed between Tottenham and Sporting Lisbon.
Pedro Porro left City for the Portuguese giants in May 2022, while officials at the Etihad Stadium included a number of favorable clauses into the deal given the player’s high-regard in European football, and his strong potential in the game.
At the time, Sporting had triggered an €8.5 million buy-option to secure the player on a permanent deal from Manchester City, with a €45 million release clause immediately embedded in the player’s new contract.
However, Manchester City were wise enough to include a €20 million buy-back clause of their own, should they wish to sign the defender back at any moment during his time in Portugal. Furthermore, City also included a 30% sell-on clause for anything above the €8.5 million they sold him for.
That means, that from a deal between Tottenham and Sporting at the €45 million mark, City will take home approximately €11 million from the deal.
That will take Manchester City’s total earnings from sell-on clauses this week to upwards of €15 million, after it was also confirmed that Ivan Ilic would make a move from Hellas Verona to Olympique Marseille. In that deal, City included a 25% sell-on clause, and as such would take around €4 million from the agreed €15 million fee between the two clubs.
