Manchester City make major decision ahead of Newcastle United move
Manchester City has placed Paul McLaren on a gardening leave, as he gets ready to assume an important new position at Newcastle United, a rival team in the Premier League.
Newcastle United is currently in the process of reorganizing their scouting system, and in the past few months, they have identified a number of potential targets to improve their chances of securing top players across all age groups.
Paul McLaren’s move to Newcastle is not the only instance of a key member leaving Manchester City for the club, as Paul Midgley was named head of youth recruitment for the Magpies in December.
It has been announced that Delroy Banks, a former scout for West Ham United, has taken on a new position based in the southern region. In addition, several new positions have been advertised within the hierarchy of United in recent weeks.
These include scouting roles in both Europe and South America, a lead video analyst, a recruitment operations manager, and a scouting lead.
Bringing McLaren on board is considered a crucial step for Newcastle United’s future plans, as the seasoned midfielder, who has previously worked for Luton Town, Tranmere Rovers, and Oxford United, is set to take on the role of the club’s new head of national youth scouting.
McLaren has extensive experience working in the Premier League, having served as head youth scout at Arsenal before his time at Manchester City, where he held the position of lead regional scout with the current Premier League champions.
Although McLaren will begin his new role on Tyneside in the summer, Manchester City has put him on gardening leave until then.
