Manchester City issue a punchy response to Premier League after dozens of breaches of financial rules accusations

In response to being charged by the Premier League with multiple violations of financial regulations, Manchester City issued a punchy statement.

Following a four-year investigation into the club’s financial status, the league announced this morning that it has charged the Blues with multiple violations ranging from the 2009/10 season to the current campaign.

City is alleged to have violated league rules requiring provision of “accurate financial information that gives a true and fair picture of the club’s financial position” in “utmost good faith.”

The league states that precise financial information is required regarding “revenue (including sponsorship revenue), its related parties, and operating costs.”

Some of the alleged violations involve rules requiring clubs to cooperate with and assist Premier League investigations. According to reports, the Premier League has a number of potential sanctions available, including point deductions.

The club has always vehemently denied any violations of financial regulations and has now issued a statement in response to the allegations.

It said: “Manchester City Football Club is surprised by the issuing of these alleged breaches of the Premier League rules, particularly given the extensive engagement and vast amount of detailed materials that the EPL has been provided with. The club welcomes the review of this matter by an independent Commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position.

“As such we look forward to this matter being put to rest once and for all.”
