Man Utd’s stance on Marcus Rashford future after PSG confirm January move interest

Manchester United  is convinced that Marcus Rashford will sign a long-term contract.

The forward’s current contract expires at the conclusion of the current season, however the Red Devils have the option to activate a one-year extension.

This season, Rashford has back to his finest form for United. He has scored eight goals in 19 appearances across all competitions for Erik ten Hag’s squad.

His achievements earned him a recall to the England World Cup squad in Qatar, where he has scored three goals in four matches. As he improves on the field, however, it remains unclear where his future lies.

However, according to Express Sport, United executives anticipate Rashford will sign a new contract. They will first activate the one-year clause in his existing contract to prevent him from leaving for free next summer.

Rashford scored his 100th goal for United earlier this season and has now played 322 games for the club since his 2016 debut.

After a challenging 2021/22 season, the 25-year-old has started 13 of his 14 Premier League appearances so far this season.

But prolonged uncertainty around his contract status has generated interest from other parties. Paris Saint-Germain has always admired the attacker.

And PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi stated this week that he will speak with Rashford’s agents in January if a free move is possible.

Al-Khelaifi told Sky Sports: “He’s another player that is really amazing. And for free? To have Rashford for free, every club would run after him, definitely.

“We’re not hiding it, we spoke before and… interest. But the moment was not a good moment for both sides. Maybe, summer, why not?

“Today if he’s a free agent of course we can talk to him directly but we are not going to talk to him now. Let him focus on the World Cup. Then after in January, hopefully, if we’re interested we will talk to him.”

Last Sunday, Rashford was not included in England’s starting lineup for their 3-0 victory over Senegal in the round of 16. He is in contention to return to the lineup for Saturday’s quarterfinal match against France.
