Man Utd source: Stunning transfer twist as Erik ten Hag now hijacking move for ‘golden boy’

According to  Football Insider, Manchester United are hijacking AC Milan’s projected approach for Lille center-back Sven Botman.

Botman is 22 years old and has been with Lille since 2020 after leaving Ajax’s youth in a £7.2 million deal. Since then, the Dutch defender has made 78 appearances for the French club, 31 of which have come in the current season.

Botman, dubbed a “golden boy” by agency director Francesco Miniero, has recently been linked with both Newcastle United and AC Milan, but it appears that Erik ten Hag now wants the tall defender at Old Trafford.

After being briefed by a Manchester United insider, FI offered a transfer update on Botman.

They believe that the Red Devils are using a ‘sensational twist’ to hijack Milan’s £25 million quest for Botman.

Botman was mentioned during Ten Hag’s transfer meeting last week, according to the source, and the United manager is a big fan of the Lille player.

Under Ten Hag, United require a defensive revamp after conceding 56 goals in 37 games, more than Burnley and Brentford.

Botman appears to be at the top of his game, with a career-high £27m Transfermarkt valuation that has risen dramatically in recent years.

Milan were apparently in advanced talks about a transaction worth less than Botman’s value, so United could take full advantage and get a steal.

He excelled in France and has Champions League experience, and with Eric Bailly and Phil Jones due to leave, Ten Hag may only have three senior centre-backs left.

As a result, Botman might be a great addition at a reasonable price, and it appears like United will beat Milan and Newcastle to the in-demand defender.
