They tried to sign the England international last year, but the move broke down due to Dortmund’s £100million asking value.
But that asking price is set to be cut this summer, with the two clubs currently bargaining over the fee.
It appears that the fee could be in the region of £80m, though there is some disagreement over the add-ons to the deal.
If United do indeed achieve the transfer arrangement, they could also have the consequence of handing City a major boost for the summer window.
That is because the Manchester Evening News report that City are entitled to 15 percent of any fee.
That figure is recognition to the fact that Dortmund signed Sancho from City back in September 2017, with Pep Guardiola’s side including a sell-on clause into the transfer.
Should the winger’s move to United go through for the reported £82m fee, that suggests that City will be entitled to £12.3m.
While not a total that could bring in a player name, that money could go into Guardiola’s transfer kitty, with the City boss keen to carry a major team reconstruct this summer.
