Man Utd receive midfield injury boost following Casemiro red card

Marcel Sabitzer’s selection for the Austria squad is great news for Manchester United’s midfield choices.

Despite missing the last two games due to an injury, the extent of which is undisclosed by Erik ten Hag, the on-loan Bayern Munich player’s appearance in the squad suggests that the injury is not too serious.

It remains uncertain if he will recover in time for the Europa League last-16 match against Real Betis, but his inclusion in the squad indicates that he is not severely affected.

Austria has scheduled two matches against Azerbaijan and Estonia on March 24th and 27th, respectively, and it is presumed that Sabitzer will be fit to play in these games.

This is good news for Manchester United, who are in need of more midfield options, especially after Casemiro’s recent red card.

Casemiro received a red card in the first half of Sunday’s match against Southampton due to a forceful tackle on Carlos Alcaraz, which will keep him out of the next four domestic games.

Manchester United confirmed that they have no plans to contest Anthony Taylor’s decision, resulting in Casemiro’s suspension for the upcoming FA Cup game against Fulham, as well as Premier League matches against Newcastle United, Brentford, and Everton after the international break.

With Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek also out long-term, United’s midfield options are limited to Scott McTominay, Fred, and Bruno Fernandes.

Erik ten Hag may provide an update on Sabitzer’s fitness during his media briefing on Wednesday, leading up to Thursday’s match against Betis. Manchester United holds a 4-1 lead from the first leg and is expected to advance to the quarter-finals comfortably.
