Man Utd plan transfer swoop for Ex Gunner and ‘the most hated man’ amid his ‘friction with new boss’

As a substitute for David De Gea, Manchester United  reportedly has ‘clear interest’ in signing Aston Villa and Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

United’s current top priority is to address their goalkeeping position.

De Gea has been their first-choice goalkeeper for a few years, but his current deal is set to expire in 2023, putting his status in question.

United has the option to extend his contract by a another year until 2024, but they have reportedly chosen against doing so.

This week, it was announced that Marcus Rashford, Diogo Dalot, Luke Shaw, and Fred have extended their contracts through 2024.

Regarding De Gea, they want him to accept “less favorable conditions.” Currently, the 32-year-old earns approximately £375,000 every week.

There was a time when De Gea was considered as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, but he is currently committing more errors.

The Spaniard was also omitted from Luis Enrique’s World Cup roster. Instead, the former Barcelona manager chose Unai Simon, Robert Sanchez, and David Raya.

It is believed that Manchester United is evaluating prospective De Gea replacements while deciding whether to retain the incumbent goalkeeper beyond this season.

According to Football Insider, the Red Devils have “concrete interest” in Villa goalkeeper Martinez.

The 30-year-old is reportedly ‘highly rated by United’s recruitment team’ and they have ‘monitored him closely’ since he joined Aston Villa in 2020 from Arsenal.

Man United have reportedly been more impressed by Messi’s elite mentality after Argentina won the World Cup under extraordinary circumstances.

He was awarded the Golden Glove for his contribution to the South American team’s third World Cup victory over France.

Kingsley Coman’s penalty kick was saved by the goalie, who then blocked Aurelien Tchouameni’s shot before the Real Madrid star missed the target. Argentina won 4-2 on penalties following a 3-3 extra-time draw with France.

Martinez generated controversy following the final whistle. He put the Golden Glove trophy over his groin and yelled to the crowd as he accepted the prize.

He later revealed that he did this in response to jeers from France fans during the final in Qatar.

Obviously, his actions have angered a number of former France players. Adil Rami has attacked Martinez on Instagram, as reported by The Express.

“The biggest son of a b*tch in football. The most hated man.”

The agent of Martinez has said that his client may quit Aston Villa since he is “aiming for the Champions League.”

A potential issue for Martinez at Aston Villa is that he apparently does not get along with new manager Unai Emery.

Last month, Football Insider reported that Martinez and Emery had a “fallout” during their time at Arsenal.

They said that his future at Villa is “in jeopardy” owing to “tensions with new manager Emery.”
