Man Utd ‘offer’ Barcelona first-choice player as part of swap deal in fresh transfer negotiations

According to Spanish media,  Manchester United  is in talks with Barcelona about signing a second player this summer, in addition to their ongoing pursuit of Frenkie de Jong.

Erik ten Hag is interested in signing Blaugrana defender Sergino Dest and is willing to send current first-choice right-back Diogo Dalot the other way in order to complete a deal.

Among midfield and attacking signings, the Dutchman hopes to improve his right-back options in the final three weeks of the summer transfer window.

While United is considering offers for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Dalot appears to be on the market before the September 1 deadline.

According to Sport, United are in talks with Barcelona about signing Dest this month as Ten Hag looks to strengthen his squad.

The Catalan club are asking around £17 million for the USMNT defender, but the Red Devils are willing to sweeten the deal by including Dalot, who has started the season as Ten Hag’s primary right-back.

The 23-year-old surpassed Wan-Bissaka in the club’s pecking order last season but has yet to impress since joining Jose Mourinho’s squad in 2018.

And he was one of many players chastised for his performance in United’s opening Premier League weekend defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford last Sunday.

Dest has been a rotational option for Barcelona since joining from Ajax in 2020, appearing in 51 La Liga games over two seasons.

The 21-year-old played 38 times for Ten Hag in the Netherlands and would continue the trend of targeting players he can trust in the current transfer window.

Dest’s willingness to return to Old Trafford remains to be seen, but Ten Hag’s efforts to sign him show his lack of trust among his current squad.

Similarly, it’s unclear whether Dalot would be willing to leave M16 for Barcelona, though he’d be unlikely to refuse with Champions League football on the table.

Ten Hag hopes to sign a new right-back, goalkeeper, two central midfielders, and a forward before the summer transfer deadline.

United’s pursuit of De Jong continues, while football director John Murtough is in Turin finalizing a £14 million deal for Juventus’ Adrian Rabiot.

Ten Hag is reportedly looking for a versatile winger and backup striker, so the club’s attacking plans are unclear.

However, Cody Gakpo of PSV Eindhoven has emerged as a possible replacement for first-choice winger target Antony. Sasa Kaladjzic of VfB Stuttgart has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford.
