Man Utd manager Erik ten Hag ruthlessly tells World Cup players he won’t be emulating Arsenal

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag will not follow Arsenal’s example when resetting his squad from World Cup mode to the Old Trafford rebuild.

With less than two weeks remaining until the return of club football, eleven United players are still competing in Qatar, although none can anticipate a break once their international duties conclude.

Ten Hag has brought a 29-man squad to Spain for a warm-weather training camp as preparations intensify for the Carabao Cup match against Burnley on December 21, three days after the conclusion of the World Cup. He presently has eleven senior players on his roster, but expects that number to increase soon.

Ten Hag confirmed to MUTV that United’s stars are aware they are expected to return soon following World Cup elimination.

. He said: “We made the players aware of the fact that after you are out of the World Cup, you have to return to the club and the league immediately goes on.

“You have to be ready for that [be ready for the league], but I think our players are used to it. Our players are winners, and they are battling now for the World Cup, and in the moment they are out – hopefully one is the winner – they have to deal with that.”

The approach of Ten Hag contrasts with that of Arsenal. The Gunners have reportedly offered Thomas Partey and Matt Turner a period of rest and recuperation following their World Cup exits.

Takehiro Tomiyasu has also announced that he intends to use the opportunity, while Granit Xhaka has decided to immediately rejoin his teammates in Dubai.
