Man Utd have three players pushing Victor Osimhen transfer interest behind the scenes
Reports suggest that Manchester United are interested in signing Victor Osimhen from Napoli in the upcoming summer transfer window, with three players being the driving force behind their interest. The Red Devils are in search of a new No. 9 and Osimhen is on their radar, but acquiring him would be expensive due to his impressive performances.
Since Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure in the summer, Manchester United has been preparing to acquire a top-tier forward player, and Osimhen is one of their targets as they aim to compete in all four competitions next season.
The Athletic reports that three players in the United team are indirectly fueling their interest in the Napoli star.
One of them is Mason Greenwood, and the club has not yet made a decision on his future after he was cleared of charges. Currently, the team is conducting an investigation into the 21-year-old player.
The fact that there are lingering uncertainties is the reason why Manchester United is considering the option of acquiring Osimhen at the conclusion of the season.
Anthony Martial’s injuries have also played a role. Many people thought that Manchester United would let him go during the summer because he hadn’t been performing well.
He didn’t do well during his loan spell at Sevilla either, scoring only one goal before returning to Old Trafford. At the beginning of the season, he was doing well, scoring four goals in three matches.
However, he has been frequently injured this season, and it is believed that United might consider parting ways with him at the end of the season. Another reason for United’s stance, unintentionally, is Wout Weghorst.
As Wout Weghorst is on a short-term loan from Burnley, Manchester United will need to find a replacement for him. They may consider signing Weghorst permanently as he has impressed, even though he hasn’t scored many goals.
However, Victor Osimhen would be a significant improvement, and United are willing to support their manager, Ten Hag, in the transfer market this summer, regardless of any potential takeover.
Osimhen has been in exceptional form for Napoli this season, playing a crucial role in their pursuit of the Scudetto by scoring 19 goals and providing three assists in 20 league games. He has also scored twice in four Champions League appearances.
If Osimhen joins Manchester United, he will be the eighth player the club has signed from Serie A. During Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign, Laurent Blanc, Juan Sebastian Veron, and Giuseppe Rossi were all signed.
Under Louis van Gaal, Sergio Romero and Matteo Darmian were recruited. Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer then brought in Paul Pogba, Amad, and Cristiano Ronaldo, respectively, during their time as managers.
Paul Parker, a former United player, recently suggested that Osimhen should be a top target for the club in the summer.
“Victor Osimhen is very dynamic and I really like him as a player,” he said.
“He is quick and strong but it’s tough to move from the Serie A to the Premier League.
“Not because the Premier League is much better than the Italian league but because of the tempo in the league.
“The tempo is much higher here than in any other league so he will have to adjust to that.
“But as I said, he is dynamic which makes it easier for him.
“Lukaku was the top goalscorer in the Serie A and he wasn’t a success when returning to the Premier League but Osimhen is a different type of player, so I believe he will be able to adapt quite well.”
