Man Utd five new signings different lineup with Casemiro kick-starting late spending spree

Erik ten Hag's Manchester United could field a slightly different lineup after the transfer window than the one that began the 4-0 thrashing at Brentford.

Manchester United  have signed Casemiro from Real Madrid as their fourth signing of the summer.

The 30-year-old holding midfielder joins United after a fee was agreed on Friday night.

He is the fourth player to arrive at Old Trafford this summer, following Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, and Lisandro Martinez, the latter of whom cost £55 million from Erik ten Hag’s former club Ajax.

More players are expected to arrive at United before the transfer window closes, especially after they lost their first two games of the season to Brighton and Brentford.

With less than two weeks until the end of the season, the Red Devils are looking for another midfielder, an attacker who can play anywhere across the front three, a backup goalkeeper, and a right-back.

If United sign at least three more players in those positions, Ten Hag will be able to field a starting lineup that is close to his ideal for either their trip to Leicester City on September 1 or their home game against Arsenal three days later.

Despite making a clear error against the Bees last time out, David De Gea is expected to remain United’s No.1 for the time being, though Ten Hag wants to bring in a backup keeper this month.

Despite Ten Hag’s efforts to strengthen at right-back, Diogo Dalot is expected to remain there.

Sergino Dest has been linked with a move to Manchester United this month, but it doesn’t appear that will happen until at least next summer, with United preferring to bolster other areas first.

The centre-back pairing is Harry Maguire and Martinez, though Raphael Varane could easily replace one of them, with Malacia at left-back.

Meanwhile, Ten Hag is desperate to make changes in the midfield after their dismal start to the season.

Casemiro would start at the bottom of the three, with Frenkie de Jong as the No. 8 and Bruno Fernandes in front.

The saga of De Jong’s possible transfer to United has dragged on all summer, but the Red Devils haven’t given up on the midfielder.

He is still their top priority for that position, and Ten Hag is eager to reconnect with his former Ajax colleague.

Antony could be another new face at United after the Brazilian attacker refused to train with Ajax in order to force a move to Old Trafford.

If he signs, the 22-year-old will almost certainly play on the right side of a front three alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho, with Marcus Rashford serving as an impact substitute.
